iamundernodisguise :: School of Seven Bells
Pearl's Dream :: Bat for Lashes

The co-post seven weeks in the making.
(We work hard for you people!)

Seriously, we've had our hands on School of Seven Bells' Alpinisms and Bat for Lashes' Two Suns for some time now. We knew we wanted to post a track from each but hit a snag: the entirety of each album is exceedingly good. Every night we'd have dinner, play through one of the albums, and have a new front-runner. It was kind of irritating. But a good problem to have.

In the end we've tried to pick the songs that best characterize these bands and that would best fit in to our little club. But honestly, the take away is this: you'll be best rewarded by exploring past our posts through the whole albums.

First up is
iamundernodisguise by School of Seven Bells. A three-piece band formed by Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines, together with identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, formerly of On! Air! Library!. The band is named after the School of the Seven Bells, a mythical South American pickpocket training academy.

And track roman numeral II is Pearl's Dream by Bat for Lashes, a one-woman-band from Brighton, U.K. consisting of half-Pakistani Natasha Khan and whomever else she damn well chooses. You might have heard her breakout single What's a Girl to Do from the debut LP Fur & Gold a couple of years back. It's got a kick ass video with lots of BMX bikes. Her latest album, Two Suns, was just released this month.

Awesome bonus fun fact that we just learned 20 minutes ago: they are touring together right now! Guess they (at least to some degree) agree with our assessment to pair them up. Unfortunately, when BFL hits SF on June 13th, they won't have SVIIB in tow. (We did not make a single one of those acronyms up - honest).

  1. I think I prefer the previous, more combative, collaborative Siegler posting style. That was entertaining.

This is not commentary on the new musak... it's good shit. I just prefer marital combat on the CDC, rather than this touchy/feely stuff.

    Thank you.
