Alan Cross, a former DJ for Toronto's 102.1 The Edge radio station for much of the nineties, created and hosts a show called the Ongoing History of New Music. The show chronicles the history of alternative rock and is syndicated across Canada.

These days, Alan continues to host the show, but also puts out a podcast and runs a website called Explore Music that promises Perspective - Context - Recommendation - Discovery

He is a prolific podcaster, and includes music news, songs you should hear, and interviews with all kinds of musicians. Recent interviewees have included Dave Gahan, Metric, Ben Folds, Glasvegas, Kings of Leon and Eddie Vedder. I've really been enjoying listening to his interviews, and he recently posted a number of "best of" podcasts that are worth checking out.
