newish stuffs from bands that I loves

Two relatively new songs from old-faves.

The first is The Rake's Song from the Decemberists' as-yet-unreleased album "the hazards of love". It's a heartwarming tale of a rather fertile dude who has four kids, the last of which dies along with his wife in childbirth. He resents his situation being a single dad, so he kills his kids one by one, and at the end of the song, is happy.

In his spare time, Colin Meloy writes children's books. No, I am not kidding. You just can't make that kind of shit up.

The second song is 'Civilians' off the eponymous 2007 album from Joe Henry. If you aren't a religious listener of Nic Harcourt, you have probably never heard of him. He's a regular fixture of the behind-the-mainstream-music scene in LA (it seems that he, Jon Brion and Amiee Mann are involved in just about all music that comes out of LA in one way or another), and does great solo work. Highly recommended.

As an aside, despite Harcourt's departure from KCRW, I highly recommend listening to morning becomes eclectic once in a while. Great music show.

edit: hmm, the Rake's song is not on Imeem yet. You can D/L it for free from the Decemberists' website, of listen to it on their myspace page.

edit edit: word.
