MySpace Eats imeem (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Lala (or Take It In :: Hot Chip))

Change. Change we can believe in. Right?

So MySpace bought imeem. And promptly shut it down. Like, the same day. There are vague claims that they will rebuild imeem Playlists "as best they can". But it all seems far from certain. And in the meantime us Seedies get bupkis.

And so we shall embrace the change. Goodbye imeem. Hello Lala.

What's Lala? Well - it's kind of like having iTunes on the web. Your personal music collection. Everywhere.

It's also the new home for CDC playlists. Eventually, I'll build out all of the old playlists, but I already have the last few on Lala. From here on out, here's what you need to do to add a song:
  1. Click on the link below the playlist or on the playlist title. If you are prompted to log in, use the standard CDC credentials in the Help tab: thecompactdiscclub@gmail.com / thecdc0408
  2. Hover over My Collection > Recent Playlists > The CDC - December '09 (or whatever month)
  3. Click on Pick Songs on the right above the playlist to find and add your song. You might have to pay 10 cents to add it, but that's fine - it'll come out of a CDC account and then we'll have it for the disc.
If you can't find a song, you'll have to send it to me as the library is sync'd to my collection.

A benefit of the move is - once logged in - you can play EVERY SINGLE CDC SONG FULL LENGTH in a high resolution. I suspect there are other benefits, but I'm still learning the ropes. Let me know if you see anything cool. AND PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL.

Without further adieu, the first post under this new regime is a song that has me more excited than possibly any other song I've posted this year. It's a new Hot Chip track called "Take It In", from their upcoming January 2010 LP "One Life Stand". It's a little but Hot Chip, a little bit goth, and a lotta bit Depeche Mode. It feels important to me. Lemme know what you think.

Now - you may be saying to yourself, "Self, I thought we weren't suppose to post song by bands that have been posted before". True. I might have suggested that as an unwritten rule in the past. But screw it. If there's a new song by a CDC alumnus go ahead and post it. Key being the newness. The mandate has been to share bands that others might not know about, and I'm suggesting we simply expand that to songs themselves. So, in summary, if you are about to post ask yourself these two questions:
  1. Is it likely that most Seedies have not heard of this band?
  2. Is it likely that most Seedies have not heard this song? (because, say, it's brand new)
If the answer to either questions is "Yes", fire away. If the answer to either question is "Uh, it's U2", maybe no. If the answer is "Yeah it's a Radiohead song, but it's from an album that doesn't come out for a month", go for it. Yeah, we've heard of Radiohead. But maybe we haven't heard about the new album yet. Huzzah! Information has been shared!

Okay. So "change". Embrace it. Hug it out.
End communication.
