Ah it's my worst fear...to come back only to find that you're leaving?! I admit, I've been neglectful, but not because I didn't love you! Please don't go!!

Ok, this is what I was going to post anyhow, not because of the Supernova (which, honestly, I just found now at 5am on a Thursday), but because I was lying on the couch the other day, contemplating the craziness of the last few months of figuring out what to do with my life, and this song literally came to me.

I heard it through the wall - my neighbour was playing music really loud, singing away, and it sounded good, so I SoundHounded it and got, Ambergris by Snowblink.

Snowblink is not only based in San Francisco, but also Canadian. How much more perfect can you get? ;) And, well, Ambergris is something precious used in perfume, specifically regurgitated whale bile that has floated in the sea, oxidizing for years....who knew?

For the record, if anyone is up for posting here in an unorganized, random way, I'd be in. Will the site still be up?

PS: Looks like this album just came out last month. The gal's name is Daniela Gesundheit. And just try to make sense of the lyrics.

It's been obvious for a couple months that our little club has lost its lustre. And that's okay. The concept was designed to fail... who bases a club on an outdated medium anyway?

So - I'm treating the next week as a wake for our friend. I intend on posting my brains out and encourage you to join me. I'll been printing up the last couple of months of disc and distributing along with March 2011 - the last CDC disc. Ever.

The March disc represents the bookend to three full years of the CDC. A good place to stop, methinks. Thanks to everyone who has made it a fun place to discover some new music. For those who are actually saddened by all of this... I've been thinking about a different way to do something similar, but it will require some development and a little time. So stay tuned. But for the CDC as we know it, I think it's time to say...

I haven't posted in awhile. Been distracted. But this song jolted me back. It's holding on, doesn't want to let go, so here I am sharing it with you all. It's an oldie (in the sense that it wasn't just released), but I'm into breaking the rules every once in awhile. And the video that it's set to here is pretty gorgeous. Hope you like it.

Graffiti6's Stare into the sun is totally stuck in my head, and I thought I'd do my best to get it stuck in your collective heads too :)

Graffiti6 is a London duo of writer/producer/DJ Tommy and singer Jamie. Tommy's produced a number of recent artists (Kanye, Kylie Minogue), but I love the fact that he produced Right Said Fred's "I'm too Sexy." That alone makes this song worth a listen.

This Japanese foursome has some serious musical chop and great vocal. Some may fault this band as too all over the place: are they punk, are they alt, are they 60's psychedelic? But I think they are just showing off in a good way. Kinda like saying..."we do these because we can...and it's fun...but also serious".

So. I wasn't a huge fan of Neon Indian's po-mo LP, 2009's Psychic Chasms (exception: Should Have Taken Acid with You), but their recent cover of T-Rex's Children of the Revolution has been permanently fixed inside my brain-parts.

The synth lead is (IMHO) the best original timbre since the Chemical Brother's Setting Sun snarl or the bass line from Nine Inch Nails Closer. I'm starting to believe that Mexican-born Alan Palomo is out for garnering more than just indie hipster cred (which he has also done).

So, like many, I've been a bit derelict in my CDC duties. To be honest - I've "discovered" a lot of music lately. But it's all been middling.

And you people only deserve the best!

But fear not. I think the music tide is turning. Here's the first of a post wave. Undertow by Warpaint, may not be the best track on their debut album "The Fool", (I almost posted the eponymous Warpaint) but I think that's only because there is no best track.

The album is definitely a "more than the sum of it's parts" proposition - dark, brooding, and conjuring up sophisticated drum and bass lines reminiscent of A Perfect Circle.

'Cept these are all ladies. Dark, brooding, ladies.

I just discovered this artist and song yesterday. The guy behind Four Tet is a Brit/South African by the name of Kieran Hebden. Never heard of him before, but he has certainly gotten my attention with this song. Enjoy, and happy 2011!

You've probably heard at least one of them, Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks has been all over the radio, but their EP just came out on Tuesday. I dare you to NOT sing it over and over again in your head. Also, these guys will be at Coachella this year.

Number two is Cameras by CDC Alumni Matt & Kim, from their latest album, Sidewalks. Again, super-catchy.

A pandora find. I was building Hannes and Hemnes from Ikea (which takes a while, more when you're ~~tipsy~~drunk), drinking a delicious Racer 5 IPA (which the lovely Sugarscoot provided), and this song came on.

Hot Pink Delorean hails from Beantown, MA. The title of the album is "I am what porno should be". Comedy.

It made me realize that I haven't been clubbing since... well, it's been a long time. The instrumental part drags on a bit, but I dig the first few minutes.

:: We Are Enfant terrible

So it's been awhile since I've felt like I've made a "real discovery". But We Are Enfant Terrible feel like exactly that. Plus they boost my French artist count for the month of November to two.

The two-boys-and-a-girl trio from Paris materialized from the ether in May 2008, and are self-described as "electro-dance sound with indie-rock and synthpop sounds... and a touch of 8bit music". Indeed, when they perform live, all parts are reproduced using guitars, drums... and a re-programmed Nintendo Gameboy. Seriously.

I couldn't decide between these two tracks:

Flesh 'n Blood Kids and
Eagles Don't Sparkle.

If anyone has strong feelings let me know. Otherwise is will be a mix-time decision.

Under the wire, ka-kaw!

So, I've got a Hawt Chip station on rotation in my Pandora quickmix list. I will be damned if "over and over" doesn't come up at least twice a day. Pandora loves it. I have no idea of what songs I 'liked' to deserve hearing 'over and over' over and over, but whatever I did, it's now hardwired into the DNA of my Pandora account. I blame Scott for introducing me to Hot Chip in the first place.

And now, the joy of repitition is indeed in me.

It's a ridiculous song, but as I've heard it 10,000 times in the past few months, it grew on me. I haven't been able to crack the significance of C-A-S-I-O, but I am sure it's key to understanding the broader meaning of the song.

It is so hard to find music that you guys haven't already posted. Whenever I hear of a cool new artist, almost always you guys have beat me to putting it on this blog. Well, not this time!!!

Ben l'oncle Soul is my latest favorite discovery, courtesy of my very amazing music-loving friend Kim. This is soul music in french, some songs in english, and the whole album is something to put on when you want to be put in a good mood.

It was hard to choose one song, they are all so great, but I chose "Soulman" so you could hear how good soul music sounds in french, and you will probably recognize a bunch of the names of famous people he throws out during the song. Enjoy!

Grown Unknown :: Lia Ices

So when I first heard Lia Ices' new track "Grown Unknown", I had to restart it three times to find the beat. The rhythmic clapping made my head spin and it's hard to find "1".

But then you get it. And it's like you're in on the secret. And then you're hooked.

With vocals reminiscent of Sarah McCanucks's elven-like intervals, "Grown Unknown" slowly -er - grows, to reveal the singer's thoughts on desire vs restraint (or so I interpret).

I don't know what has come over me as of late -- I am getting sucked into really cheesy, overly dramatic romantic songs and movies, the latest of which is the....ugh, I can't believe I'm telling all of you this.....(gulp) the "Twilight" series.

I know, totally ridiculous. But I can't help it! I'm a sucker (ha) for anything that reminds me of the magical nature of the first love. That electricity and chemistry and insatiable desire that was almost too much to bare...come on, we've all been there...It's a very teenage, puppy love/crush place, and it was totally awesome.

So my contribution this month is a song that was released last year, but here is a remix version that I like better than the original that was on the Twilight soundtrack -- "Atlas" by Fanfarlo.

Ok looks like we could use another one for August! Here is an oldie but I think you need to hear it, if you haven't already. Wolf Parade is a Montreal band that most Canadians don't even know. They just played in Oakland and come through the Bay Area every couple of years. This song will drag you out of any funk. The video is a bit weird, so just listen and don't watch :)

Okay - the extremely astute will notice that I already posted a song from Autolux's sophomore album "Transit Transit", due out this Tuesday, August 3rd. It's true - I submitted "Audience No 2" in June... 2008.

More than two years after that first track from the album was released - the entirety is ready to see the light of day. The apparent hold-up being new-school record label hijinks.

Oh well - I'm just glad it's here.

Lali Puna has new album out called "Our Inventions".

Anyway - these "kraut rockers" (one of my least favorite music labels) have a cool vibe that would have sounded ahead of their time if it was, which it wasn't (in 2004). Yet somewhat anachronistically, "Faking the Books", now six years old, seems more forward-looking for 2010 then it did when it was released. I think it's because - of all the directions that "sound" could have gone, Lali Puna bet on the right horse melding the refined synths and smooth base with understated vocals and a bit of lo-fi clang - a feel that many bands are trying to work out for themselves now, but was an off-putting experiment six years ago.

I'm not sure I'm making any sense, so I'll stop now.

For the past year, Beck's been getting together with a few of his friends and covering entire albums in one day. The first album they covered was The Velvet Underground & Nico. Next was Songs of Leonard Cohen. Third up was Skip Spence's Oar. For the fourth album, Beck brought together Liars, Os Mutantes and Annie Clarke of St. Vincent to cover INXS's Kick. I'm particularly taken with their version of Never Tear Us Apart. 1987 never sounded so good.

After a slow May, and a revival in June - after baby-busyness, work-amplification, and a trip to Canada - I at last have some good news:

I've finally mixed May and June.

Turns out that, while short, May can stand on it's own legs.
So our club streak continues at 27 months straight. Yay team.

Will start the discs down their (slowish) distribution channels. Nice thing, is Karen's impending return to the United States of Amgen means distribution speed should pick back up next month. Hooray!

World Cup Fever: Get On Your Boots

Okay, one more post for today...I forgot that I wanted to give a nod to the World Cup for this month and the craze that is taking over the soccer-watching world as of yesterday when the championship kicked off.

The little South American country where my family is from -- Uruguay -- is in the cup this time around, and played very well yesterday against France.

But what really infected me with World Cup fever was this video.

It caught me off guard while waiting in an AT&T Wireless store. It came on the superfluous widescreen television that they have in there, and it did me in. I know, cheesy as hell, but I'm a sucker for well-done montages and a good soundtrack.

Since that collaboration between U2 and the Soweto Gospel Choir is only 1:30 long, I am going to contribute this remix of the same song by Justice:

I've been lazy about looking for music lately. I haven't been listening to podcasts, reading music reviews, or even listening to the radio. What I have been doing is watching The Price Is Right. Sometimes I even watch it live, which means I can't fast-forward through the commercials. Well, thanks TPIR, not only have you provided me with entertainment, you've also provided me with a post for this month. Lindstrom & Christabelle's "Lovesick" is featured in a new Cadillac commercial. The rest of their album, "Real Life is No Cool," seems to be pretty good too.
